It takes a community: reflecting on World Parkinson’s Day
Every year on April 11th, the world stops to shine a light on Parkinson’s Disease, a progressive neurological condition that affects more than 10 million people globally. At More Than Support, we’re reminded on this day that awareness is only the first step. Understanding, compassion, and tailored support are what truly make a difference in someone’s life.
Parkinson’s doesn’t just impact movement. It affects speech, mental health, sleep, and the everyday confidence of those living with it. No two journeys with Parkinson’s are the same, which is why person-centred care is so critical.
For us, World Parkinson’s Day is an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment: to meet people where they are, adapt our support as needs evolve, and ensure dignity and independence are never compromised.
We also want to acknowledge the quiet strength of carers, family members, support workers, and friends, who walk this journey too. Your patience, advocacy, and love do not go unnoticed.
So today, we wear the tulip, the global symbol of Parkinson’s awareness, not just as a gesture, but as a promise. To listen more. To do better. To never stop advocating for those navigating this complex condition.
If you or someone you know is living with Parkinson’s and looking for disability support that sees the person, not just the condition, reach out. More Than Support is here, always.
